Due to the different systems of countries in the world, the number of units represented by the same unit of measurement varies.

In international trade, the international system of units, which is promulgated on the basis of the metric system, is usually adopted by the metric system, the British system, the American system and the international standard measurement organization.

According to the Metrology Law of the People's Republic of China, "the State adopts the international system of units.

The unit of measurement of the international system of units and the unit of measurement chosen by the state is the national legal unit of measurement ".

At present, in addition to some special areas, illegal measurement units are generally not allowed.

In addition to taking account of the trade rules of the other countries, China's export commodities should be used in the legal units of measurement in China.

China's import of machinery and equipment and instruments should be subject to the use of China's statutory units of measurement. Otherwise, it is generally not allowed to import. If there are special needs, it must also be approved by the Ministry of standards and metrology management department.

The above systems of weights and measures result in differences in the quantities expressed by the same unit of measurement.

For example, in terms of the tonnes of weight, the metric countries generally adopt metric tons of 1000 kilograms per metric ton, and the British countries generally adopt long tonnes, which are 1016 kilograms per ton.

In the United States system, countries usually use short tons.

907 kg per short ton.

In addition, some countries also have customary or statutory units of measurement for certain commodities.

In order to solve the malpractice caused by different scales, the international standard measurement organization adopted the international system of units (SJ) on the basis of the widely used metric system. The implementation and popularization of the international system of units marked the internationalization and standardization of measurement. Now more and more countries adopt the international system of units.
