According to a number of American media reports,

American clothing and Footwear Association AAFA

The United States trade representative's office is appealed to the Alibaba and its Taobao platform to be listed on the "notorious market" list.

In 2012, Alibaba was removed from the notorious market by the office of the United States trade representative.

AAFA wrote to the US trade representative's office that Alibaba failed to meet the requirements of the former and put an end to fake products on its platform.

The letter also referred to a part of the Research Report of SAIC, which shows that up to 67% of the products on Taobao platform are counterfeit.

After the news, us time closed yesterday.

Alibaba stock

The price fell by more than 1% to $106 per share, and the market value is currently about $265 billion.

In January 29th last year, Alibaba was also affected by the counterfeit storm. The closing stock price fell nearly 9% on that day and its market value evaporated more than 20 billion US dollars, the largest single day decline since Alibaba listed.

The office of the United States trade representative will issue a list of notorious markets every year to list the online and physical markets that participate in or promote infringement or counterfeit products. Alibaba is part of the 2016 notorious market audit application submitted by AAFA to the office of the United States trade representative. This year's application contains 118 Online and physical markets for the sale of counterfeit goods.

AAFA urged the US government to reclassify Taobao's Alibaba in 2015.

Notorious market

"The list indicates that Taobao is synonymous with counterfeit goods. Taobao is by far the most serious on record online sales platform, because it is the largest and fastest growing symbol of fake products.

That is why the association insists on making such an effort to appeal.

AAFA chairman and CEO Rick Helfenbein said that although many public statements show that Alibaba attaches great importance to the issue of counterfeit goods, the association has not seen the improvement of Alibaba's platform. The office of the United States trade representative eliminated Alibaba from the list a few years ago, assuming that the company needs to meet the specific requirements in the future, but at the moment, these requirements are not yet satisfied, leading to the cost of the members of the American consumers and associations.

Last May, the French Open Cloud group, which owns luxury brands such as Gucci and Paris, filed a lawsuit against Alibaba, accusing Ali of connivance in selling holidays and benefiting from it.

In the context of this lawsuit, Alibaba and its related organizations provide "market advertising and other necessary support services for counterfeiting and selling fake and shoddy products to American consumers".

The lawsuit points out that the counterfeit Gucci handbags provided by Chinese businessmen cost 10 US dollars per set, while the genuine Gucci sells for us $795.

The lawsuit said that even if it was explicitly told that businesses were selling counterfeit goods, Alibaba would allow them to continue selling on their platforms.

Some analysts pointed out that

Luxury brand

There is still concern about the war.

In May 14th this year, the international anti fake alliance confirmed in a letter to its members that it had suspended the membership of Alibaba.

This is only a month away from Alibaba's announcement that it has joined the international anti fake alliance IACC, which is based in Washington, D.C., and now has about 250 members including the global luxury and fashion brands.

Lee Sporn, a longtime legal adviser to the US luxury brand Michael Kors, said in an earlier letter to the international anti-counterfeiting alliance that Alibaba is the most dangerous existence in the fashion industry. Alibaba's strategy is limited to verbal support for brand law enforcement, but the problem of counterfeit goods on its trading platform has not been solved practically.

Michael Kors, Gucci and Tiffany&Co announced their withdrawal from the international anti-counterfeiting alliance in order to express their boycott of Alibaba's participation in the international anti-counterfeiting alliance.

It is reported that the US trade representative's office must respond to the AAFA appeal before October 21, 2016. As of press release, Alibaba did not respond to the news.
