Hat Role Fashion

A wedding in England once again brought the hat culture to our eyes. This summer, you may only wear jeans, T-shirt and a pair of high heels, but if you want to be very effective, you can wear high heels on your head. Hat can add individuality to you and shape different roles in your life.

In the classic film my fair lady, Audrey Hepburn played a poor florist, practicing the standard British Cockney's social speaking, social etiquette and ladies' dress in various occasions through a series of careful training by linguists. 6 months later, the ugly duckling became a beautiful swan. Finally, she got rid of poverty and became a famous lady in the upper class. In the movie, a set of classic and elegant lady's dress and matching hat have made the flower girl complete, and at the same time have completed Audrey Hepburn. Hats express the social hierarchy of different roles.

In the west, the role of a hat is much more than protection, sunscreen and warmth. It is a fashion accessory and suitable for many occasions. At the same time, it is also a symbol of your occupation, nationality, religious belief and social status. From the date of birth, the hat style has changed with the development of history and culture, playing a different role. It is a living textbook.

In ancient times: the crown had already been divided.

Recently, I visited the famous British hat designer and manufacturer Stephen Jones for his hat knowledge. Very coincidentally, his store is located in the Covent Garden in London, the place where the flower girl lives in the movie my fair lady. Mr. Stephen told me about the western history of the hat.

In the west, a hat is a symbol of rights and status. In ancient Greece and Rome, slaves could only wear a straw hat to shade the sun. In the middle ages, the hierarchy of hat was more clear. Kings wore gold crowns, prisoners wore paper hats and so on. In the late sixteenth Century, there were special designs for officials, Queens, princesses and ladies in the court. In eighteenth Century, with the word "Milliner", the word "bonnet maker", it came from Milan, Italy, because during this period, Milan could produce the best hat. The women's hat industry is a traditional female occupation. The maid manufacturer is not only responsible for designing, but also responsible for material selection and production.

In twentieth Century, Paris and London established a strong fashion center, which is the same time that the story of the fair lady happened. Silk hat is still the main match for evening dress, especially at tea party and Sunday church. British gentlemen usually wear gray hat to see horse racing and other competitions.

Today: Hat transfer fashion grade

In the 60s of last century, the hat was still one of the most important costumes of the British. Mr. Stephen recalls that he wore hat since he was a child, regardless of the winter school uniform or the summer boater hat. When he went to Saint Martin art school in his teenage years, and later practiced in a very traditional high fashion company, he gradually became interested in the design of the bonnet.

With the development of the times, hats have become the ornaments used for formal occasions or practical needs, and hegemony has never been returned. But a few of them, like queen mother and Princess Diana, have always been very fond of hats. Mr. Stephen once made a velvet Bailey hat for Princess Diana, elegant and fashionable. The two colors of black and red are very similar to their suits. They are also Diana's favorite colors.

Mr. Stephen has also designed many kinds of hats for many films. Last year, the hat in the movie "Coco Before Chanel" about Chanel life was designed by Mr. Stephen. At that time, the director wanted to create a Coco image of young innocence. Mr. Stephen therefore designed a concise, neutral derby hat to the heroine, and used this great contrast to set out the complexity of the characters.
Mr. Stephen has worked with many different designers around the world. Vivienne Westwood is a very impressive designer. He recently worked with her in the Royal Ascot (famous Racecourse) to make poster promotion this summer. "She always likes adventure. She likes hat and headwear very much. She always has strong thoughts." Mr. Stephen said.
