Most of the textiles imported illegally through smuggling are from China, and the goods are marked with Garner trademarks.
The destruction is carried out by the task force appointed by the government. The task force is composed of Garner trade and Industry Department, the Inland Revenue Department, the textile workers association, the customs, the Inland Revenue and Preventive Services Bureau, the Standards Committee and some local textile production and import companies.
Ghana Abu Hamm Kumson, director general of the Federation of laborers, disclosed the action to the Garner times yesterday. He said that nearly 25 thousand people had been employed by local textile enterprises before, but only 3000 workers were on duty because of the counterfeit textiles imported by illegal means. The behavior of counterfeiters and smugglers and unfair trade competition led to unsalable sales of local products. He also mentioned that these textiles were lower than the production standards, and some of the chemicals they used had serious physical damage.
Kumson, director general, said the above investigation and destruction measures could effectively deter counterfeit and smugglers. He hoped to pass it in the future.
