Vietnam'S Textile Industry Is Developing Rapidly; Personnel Shortage Delays The Pace Of Development

At present, there are about 2000 textile and clothing enterprises in Vietnam (25% foreign-funded enterprises), and two thirds of the enterprises in North Vietnam are mainly processing and production with supplied materials.

The Vietnamese government plans to build 11 textile and garment industrial parks in 11 provinces and cities, including Haiphong, Beining, Xin'an, Taiping, Qinghua and Da Nang, after 2010.

At present, three parks, Xin'an, Pingyang and Danang, are under construction and taking shape.

It is also planned to start to produce 80000 tons of embryo cotton, 120000 tons of roving, 300000 tons of various yarns and finished products annually in 2010 Satin 1.4 billion square meters, 500 million pieces of knitting products, and 1.5 billion pieces of clothing. The export volume is 8 billion to 9 billion US dollars.

At present, Vietnam has about 545 weaving factories (including foreign-funded weaving factories). Most of the manufacturers failed to invest in updating production equipment as a whole, and the production line operation was poor due to the accommodative increase and decrease of equipment. However, those who are able to invest in the development of the whole factory, whose products weaken the market competitiveness under the pressure of high depreciation of new equipment, and it takes time for technicians to learn new production technologies.

In addition, there is a shortage of technicians and workers, which makes the newly purchased equipment unable to operate.
